The grants supports five principle activities intended to facilitate mobilization of the required resources for the development of the Batoka Hydroelectric Power Scheme and is being implemented as part of broader program of support to the riparian states within the Zambezi River Basin. The studies to advance preparation of the Batoka Gorge HPP have been delayed against the original schedule, largely due to the need for ensuring proper consultations within the governance structures of the ZRA, including the Board, Council of Ministers and the respective stakeholders within the two countries and more broadly. Additional financing is being processed to support additional geotechnical investgiations that will enhance the engineering assessments and support further work on the possible structures for financing the preferred option if and as when determined.
