The Enigneering Study and the Environmental and Social Impact Assessment are ongoing but experiencing delays in implementation. The contract for the Transaction Advisors has been concluded and the consultants appointed to support the Zambezi River Authority with structuring the appropriate option for the preferred scheme. A Panel of Experts for Dam Safety, as well as for Environment and Social, have been appointed by the Zambezi River Authority under the Kariba Dam Rehabilitation Project and have visitied the site. The contract negotiations for the Dam Break Analysis have been concluded but will now be financed under the Kariba Dam Rehabilitation Project with the additional resource availability allowing for the full scope analysis of all scenarios at the basin level to be carried out. The World Bank has launched a parallel activity to assist the riparian states of the Zambezi River to develop and utilize the Zambezi hydropower potential in a sustainable and responsible way to ensure its benefits for present and future generations.
