Other two activities are expected to be physically finished by May 2013. Accordingly, a total of fifteen investment activities will be physically completed before the project reaches its lifecycle midpoint. Results from available data for 2012 indicate that three of the five end-of-project indicators have been already achieved. The intraday market is now ready for operation with the Automatic Meter Reading component of the Market Management System package completed, tested and accepted in May 2012. This supplements the Day-ahead Electricity Market which has been in operation since December 2011. The development objective of Turkey ECSEE APL6 is to help improve Page 1 of 5 The World Bank Report No: ISR9031 the capacity and reliability of the power transmission system in Turkey and its ability to integrate renewable energy capacity into the system. Investments and preparations for integration of large-scale renewable energy integration continue to make progress. TEIAS is aiming to sign a contract to upgrade the SCADA system and to develop the new National Control Center including a control desk for dispatching and monitoring of renewable generation in the second quarter of 2013. Public Disclosure Copy Another key development objective of Turkey Energy Community of South East Europe (ECSEE) which was carried over under APL6 is the creation of an integrated energy market allowing for cross-border energy trade and integration with the EU market. The trial interconnection began in September 2010 and still continues. This trial allows for limited commercial electricity exchange between Turkey and continental Europe through interconnections with the Bulgarian and the Greek power grids. The remaining investments under APL6 such as the development of 200 new Remote Telemetry (or Terminal) Units, the upgrade of the SCADA system, and the development of a new National Control Centre with a control desk for dispatching and monitoring renewable generation, will strengthen the Turkish power system ability to run in parallel with ENTSO-E (European Networks of Transmission System Operators for Electricity) countries.
