All launch events received widespread positive media coverage and included the participation of government, provincial counterparts, civil society organizations and community members. As of end March 2019, approximately 500 individuals have completed the Infrastructure and Service Delivery Training (ISDT), of which 50% are youth and 54% are women. Two hundred and sixty individuals have benefited from work placements in the community-based waste management and/or access infrastructure subprojects (40% youth, 72% female), generating over 6,500 labor days. 5/20/2019 Page 1 of 8 The World Bank Implementation Status & Results Report Community Access and Urban Services Enhancement Project (P161320) The ISDT is underway in all locations and the pilot for pre-training literacy development with the Literacy Association of Solomon Islands has also started in two communities (Mamanawatha and Antiok). However, the level of progress of works activities varies by location. While the waste collection, road maintenance and community infrastructure subprojects are on track in Honiara, Guadalcanal Province (GP) and Gizo, waste management and access infrastructure activities have not yet commenced in Noro, Munda and Auki with works activities in these locations behind schedule by about a month. The planned works range from the improvement and rehabilitation of the Noro Market and construction of a Jacobs Ladder, which would provide direct and safe access for communities living in Back Way to the SolTuna Cannery--the largest employer in the Western Region. The Jacobs Ladder would also serve as an emergency evacuation route for these communities who are significantly exposed in the event of a tsunami. Other works planned in Auki include a bridge crossing in Kwaibala, which would provide safe passage for communities, especially during the wet season. Over the next six months, the implementing agencies (Honiara City Council and Ministry of Infrastructure Development) will focus on mobilizing works activities in the remaining provincial towns and operationalizing the Management Information System and electronic banking, which will allow for more timely and effective reporting on the project.
