It has helped communities to adopt sanitation awareness and hand washing campaigns, improve sanitation facilities and programs in schools, and become open-defecation free. The project is also strengthening the sustainability of these outcomes by facilitating the formation of district-level water boards and improving the capacity of other provincial, district, and village institutions. Although still slightly short of its main targets, the Public Disclosure Copy project has proven the effectiveness of its community-driven approach and it is now being scaled up to reach roughly twice the number of villages and beneficiaries as originally planned. Recent impact evaluation confirmed the effectiveness of the program in improving access to clean water and sanitation.
