Has the Project Development Objective been changed since Board Approval of the Project Objective? No Components Table Name Component 1: Improve regional collaboration for stronger results across participating countries:(Cost $30.70 M) Component 2: Support coordinated implementation of technical strategies and interventions:(Cost $73.70 M) Component 3: Strengthen institutional capacity to coordinate and monitor implementation:(Cost $16.60 M) Overall Ratings Name Previous Rating Current Rating Progress towards achievement of PDO Satisfactory Satisfactory Overall Implementation Progress (IP) Satisfactory Satisfactory Overall Risk Rating Substantial Substantial Implementation Status and Key Decisions Notwithstanding the insecurity, progress is being made towards the achievement of the PDO. All target districts in the three project countries have at least 70% coverage of 3 or more SMC courses for children less or equal to 5 years; and project in the countries also provide integrated treatment of schistosomiasis and STH for school aged children 5 - 14 years. Overall Implementation Progress (IP), Financial management, Project management, and procurement were all rated as Satisfactory. A stocktaking meeting and exchange of experiences on Mass Drug Treatment (TDM) against NTDs and Seasonal Malaria Chemoprevention (SMC) campaigns, organized by WAHO in Mali has permitted the project to: (i) identify the assets to be consolidated and the weaknesses to be corrected in view of improving the next campaigns; and (ii) develop countries' drug needs for the 2020 SMC and NTD campaigns. 1/4/2020 Page 1 of 7 The World Bank Implementation Status & Results Report Sahel Malaria and Neglected Tropical Diseases (P149526) The coverages recorded for the 1st and 2nd passages for SMC were 100% for Mali and Niger. The drug distribution campaigns were carried out in Burkina Faso but as there had been a workers’ strike in Burkina Faso, the team could not get official coverage figures. However, from independent monitoring data, the team learned that Burkina Faso reached 95.63% of the targets children that needed to be treated on during the first passage for SMC. Coverage for TDM / MTN ranged from 91.81% to 100%. The treatment of complications of NTDS (Hydrocele) in beneficiary countries of the M/NTD project have been ongoing and supported by WAHO. Two camps for hydrocele surgery are planned for Mali and three for Burkina Faso. WAHO is working on the automatic transfer of malaria and NTD data to the DHIS-2 regional platform. The interconnection between the regional platform and national platforms for the collection of routine data and mass campaigns (CPS and TDM / MTN) are effective.
