Three of the five PDO-level indicators report steady progress towards their end targets. Final figures for the 2012 school year reveal that retention rates increased significantly from the 2011 year. The retention rate for 4th graders in the 40 municipalities of intervention reached 48.7%, 2.9 percentage points higher than the 2011 baseline. This increase was much higher for girls, where retention rate reached 51.7%, 4.8 percentage points higher than 2011. In addition, MINED's Planning and Infrastructure Departments have been strengthened in order to manage monitoring and information systems. The project contributed to these improvements through: i) the delivery of 49,680 school kits (paquetes escolares) in selected municipalities; ii) teacher training for 847 prospective Public Disclosure Copy multi-grade primary teachers since April 2013; iii) the delivery of 119,161 desks, 1102 whiteboards, and 1102 cabinets to selected primary schools; iv) the implementation of the Third Regional Comparative and Explanatory Study (TERCE) in October 2013, v) the completion of 51 pre-investment studies; and vi) the creation of MINED's school infrastructure inventory system, which includes detailed information on 100% of the schools, 66% of which have been geo-referenced.
