The project includes three main works contracts : i) the construction of 27 km of sewerage network, ii) the construction of a wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) and iii) the decommission of the wastewater treatment lagoons. The contract for the construction of the sewerage network was signed on December 2013 and works are about to start. The bidding for the waste water Treatment Plant is at evaluation stage. This will be the first UASB (Upflow Anaerobic Sludge Blanket) plant in Argentina. Both works contracts will be supervised by an independent engineering firm in process to be recruited. The decommissioning of the wastewater treatment lagoons subproject would start at a later stage, given the existing lagoons would be used until the completion of the new sanitation system. The project is also supporting two service providers including SAMEEP (Water utility of the Chaco Province) and SAT (Sociedad Aguas de Tucuman) to improve sustainable access Public Disclosure Copy to potable water through the development of a institutional strengthening plan whose priority actions will be financed by the project.
