Indeed, at this point in the project implementation period all project activities have been completed, except for one civil works contract located at Corridor 1 in Haiphong Province. This remaining contract is expected to be completed by end-September 2016. With all other civil works and consulting services under the project having been completed, the Project Results Framework indicates that substantially all target values for the project's outcome and intermediate indicators have been met, thus confirming that the project has attained its development objective. The Government of Vietnam has tentatively proposed to allocate additional International Development Association (IDA) funds to the project to construct the Day-Ninh Co interconnecting canal ("DNC canal"), an integrated piece of waterway infrastructure located along Corridor 3 of the Red River Delta inland waterway network that has always been part of the project scope but for which there are insufficient funds remaining under the original IDA credit that finances the project. The World Bank and the Government of Vietnam are in the process of assessing the current economic viability of the DNC canal investment. Should this be confirmed, it is expected that additional funds will be allocated to the project to construct the canal during the period 2017-2019, thus completing all civil works activities under the project as originally intended.
