Activities on rehabilitating flood control and drainage rehabilitation infrastructure are completed on 36 schemes, while works on 6 others are ongoing. The works on developing minor irrigation schemes continue to lag behind schedule due to time lost in adopting the enabling Page 1 of 3 The World Bank Report No: ISR10995 legislation, although works on one scheme have been completed, while are ongoing on four others. Progress under the Institutional Strengthening and Capacity Building Component has been notable, with activities that are no longer relevant or feasible having been restructured and/or dropped. Study of Project impact on crop production has been completed - with key findings showing that: (a) the interventions under the Project to improve drainage and irrigation contributed Public Disclosure Copy to 11% increase in crop yield; while at the same time (b) reduced the cost of crop production between 15 and 20%. Since the Project's start, over 400,000 hectares country-wide have been protected from floods, providing an increased level of protection to approximately 1.1 million people.
