The project was declared effective in July, 2011 and activities are well underway. A first call for proposals solicited 414 proposals, of which 23proposals (from 19 organizations across 34 countries) were funded. To date, SOS has provided support to 96 threatened species (such as pygmy hippos, tigers and cycads) across 36 countries. A third call for proposals is expected in May 2013.
