The grade one intake rate is 113 percent while the target at the end of the project is 110 percent. The primary GER target of 96 percent (rate is currently 94.1 percent) is likely to be met by the end of project. Currently, more girls than boys are enrolled at the primary level. The primary completion rate (PCR) in 2012 was 65.6 percent (end of project target of 70 percent). The 2013 statistics are not yet available. They will be used for the last ISR that will be prepared in September 2013. The Grant agreement for US$81.5 was signed on July 2009. So far, 80 percent of the resources have been disbursed and 3,221 classrooms have been built while 1,086 are Page 1 of 4 The World Bank Report No: ISR11017 currently being finalized. However, the construction of 126 classrooms with 53 in the district of Bignona (Casamance Region) has not begun due to security reasons. The resources for the construction of these are being used to build schools in alternative sites. The more efficient and effective procurement process generated US$8.3 million in savings that the Government is using to build additional classrooms and auxiliary facilities for 27 Public Disclosure Copy junior secondary schools to support the Government’s recent policy to implement a compulsory ten-year basic education.
