The implementation of the Adaptation of Water Supplies to Climate Change Project is proceeding rather smoothly, with some minor delays in delivery of key technical studies. The implementing agencies for the project, the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (MARENA), the Emergency Social Investment Fund (FISE) and the beneficiary agency Page 1 of 6 The World Bank Report No: ISR13057 ANA (the National Water Authority) are working diligently on their respective components. During the mission, the implementing agencies made a series of presentations on on the progress of the technical studies underway. Immediately following the mission, two technical workshops were organized to follow up on the studies. The first was a training workshop on the use of a modeling tool Resource Investment Optimization System (RIOS) and its potential application in the formulation of climate change adaptation plans at the municipal level. The second one was to work with the Nicaraguan counterparts on the design of the Compensation for Environmental Services (CES) mechanism to be used in the Public Disclosure Copy implementation of Component 1.2 of the project. Both workshops were successfully completed and the counterparts are using the lessons learned to finalize the studies, initiate baseline surveys and establish a list of land uses, and levels of compensation for participating farmers.
