To achieve the objectives, the grant supports institution building of community seed funds (CSFs) for the benefit of and to be run by poor women located in 7 pilot rayons of the Khatlon Region. The CSFs will enable the beneficiaries to procure quality seeds, maintain a seed bank (with a subsequent sustainability of yields and activity) and market their surplus seeds (creating additional sources of income). Has the Project Development Objective been changed since Board Approval of the Project? Nevertheless, the project made progress and 366 CPG were established plus additional new 128 established out of revolving seed funds to the benefit of about 8,154 women beneficiaries. For all CWG that have completed their activities, seed has been returned in the required quantities, properly stored and processed. Also all the targeted 21 Community Seed Funds (CSF) – one per district – have been established, operational and registered with the Ministry of Justice and Tax committee and Statistics Committee as legal entities. Public Disclosure Copy Improvements in yield are similar to those observed under the Food Security project, e.g. in 2012, average wheat yield was about 4.7 tons per hectare compared to regional average yield of 2.8 tons per hectare; corn - 5 tons per hectare compared to 3.9 tons per hectare. The project has not been closed.
