The rehabilitation works under the Arusha-Minjingu, Korogwe– Mkumbara, Mkumbara-Same contracts are 94 %, 82.5 %, and 35 % completed respectively, with about 172 km of roads completed to Asphalt Concrete (AC) layer by end of April 2014. The works under the Kigoma and Tabora Airports have been substantially completed and handed over to TAA in June 2013 within the contractual completion period and cost. Public Disclosure Copy Defects liability period for these two contracts ended in June 2014. The paving of the runway and the construction of the apron in the Bukoba airport has also been substantially completed and provisionally accepted in December 2013, while 50% of the new terminal building construction was completed as of end of April 2014. The extension, and rehabilitation and widening works of the main taxiway (taxiway C), and the construction of the new apron, taxiway D, and the new link taxiway in the Zanzibar airport are substantially completed. Overall the works in Zanzibar airport are 72% completed by the end of April 2014. Further, 641 km of roads has received emergency maintenance while 225 culverts and 18 bridges were constructed under the component E of the project through 109 small contracts in 20 regions of the mainland of Tanzania. Most of the works contracts are likely to be completed within the appraisal estimates and within the project completion day. The progress on the major studies and designs included under the project is as follows: The detailed design and Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA), under two separate contracts, for the Mafinga - Igawa road (137.9 km) have been completed. Four other consultants have been working on the detailed design of 6 road links located in the different parts of Tanzania, which together amount to about 770 km of road. Three of the consultants have finalized the designs (570 km) and the reports have been submitted to TANROADS, while the remaining final design report for the 200 km Mtwara-Masasi road is being finalized. The railways upgrading and performance improvement study is completed and the final reports were submitted in March 2013. This study reports are being used for mobilizing funds from different donors including the Bank for the re-vitalization of the Tanzania Railway Limited (TRL) central line railway system. Four short Term consultants had also submitted final reports on an ESIA, a land bridge concept study, and a market assessment and business plan development as an input to the preparation of the Intermodal & Rail Development Project which was approved on April 24, 2014. The study for the removal of bottlenecks on local government roads has been completed and the designs for the first year of program have secured financing. The Technical Assistance (TA) for (i) the Department of safety and Environment in the MoW; and (ii) for PPP advisory services in the MoT are ongoing, along with the consultancy services on the establishment of the (RAIS). The commitment under signed contracts is estimated about US $ 265.34 million equivalent. The commitment under the signed contracts account for 98.7% the total credits allocations and have committed 81% of the allocations. The total amount of funds disbursed as of May 19, 2014, is US$ 212.17 million which is about 64.1% of the two credit amounts of US$ 329 million, while about 77% of the project implementation period has elapsed.
