87983 rev Croatia Improving Quality and Efficiency of Health Services – Program-for-Results Chair Summary* May 8, 2014 Executive Directors approved a loan in the amount of EUR 75 million (US$103.5 million equivalent) to the Republic of Croatia for a Program for Results (PforR) operation, Improving Quality and Efficiency of Health Services, on the terms and conditions set out in the President’s Memorandum. Directors supported the proposed PforR operation aimed at improving the quality of health care and efficiency of health services in Croatia especially for the poorest sections of Croatian society. They noted that it was critical to address regional disparities, high costs and financial viability which have an impact on total public expenditures. Directors emphasized the engagement with the client to build institutional capacity. They underlined the importance of strengthening measuring and monitoring of the implementation of the program, including gender-specific health improvements and providing credible verification of results. Directors encouraged more effective coordination and cooperation between the Bank and other development partners, including the private sector, to support the needed reforms. They welcomed the program’s focus on governance and accountability, and underscored the need to maintain a sound communications strategy to inform the stakeholders on the reform and its expected outcomes.
