All project activities are now either completed or well underway. This assessment is based on the implementation support mission conducted in the country between February 3-11, 2020. PICAR (totaling around US$100 million equivalent) is focusing on a total of 1,223 communities and 116 municipalities in five departments (Chuquisaca, Cochabamba, Oruro, La Paz and Potosi). To date, the process of capacity building of prioritized communities, participatory planning and preparation of 684 Community Participatory Plans (PPC) has been completed under the Additional Financing (AF). The portfolio of prioritized community subprojects issued from the PPCs and executed or under implementation is totaling 2,191 (880 under the original credit and 1,311 under the AF) and exceeding the target of 2,100. The selected subprojects fall in the following categories: a) productive (greenhouses, fenced corals and pens for livestock, silos for storage of grains and other farm products, water collection or harvesting systems, chicken coops, beekeeping, and family gardens) totaling 64.8 percent of the portfolio; 3/10/2020 Page 1 of 6 The World Bank Implementation Status & Results Report BO PICAR Community Investment in Rural Areas (P107137) b) micro-irrigation investments totaling 28.8 percent; c) road infrastructure counting for 6.2 percent of the portfolio, and; d) the rest (0.2 percent) being sanitation and other types of investments. The total number of families that benefited from subprojects funded under PICAR and PICAR AF has reached 43,674 (22,687 under the initial financing and 20,987 under the AF). The current closing date of PICAR is April 30, 2020. To date, PICAR has already fully achieved of exceeded the targets of its results and monitoring indicators. To better ensure the sustainability of the subproject investments in the post-project period, EMPODERAR as the implementing entity from MDRyT, is implementing an action plan in close coordination with the relevant municipal authorities to enhance technical assistance and accompanying support to beneficiary communities in the productive, operation and maintenance phases of the subprojects. The next mission for PICAR is scheduled for late May or early June 2020.
