The project is intended to benefit 948,000 people through the operation of a newly-constructed landfill and transfer stations; increases in fee collections; increases in regular collection services; the introduction of livelihood programs directed at affected waste-pickers; and the closure of contaminated land and dumpsites. Of the five Project Development Objective (PDO) indicators, one has met its target outcomes, (providing livelihoods for waste pickers) and the remaining indicators are well on track to achieve their target by project completion: For PDO level indicator 1, disposal of waste at the Sofa landfill, civil work is near completion and the landfill is expected to be ready for operation by August 2019. PDO level indicator 2 (increase in JSC-KRM fee cost recovery), the target original which has 4/4/2019 Page 1 of 7 The World Bank Implementation Status & Results Report Gaza Solid Waste Management Project (P121648) been achieved earlier, has been adjusted to meet the projected/upgraded cost of delivering improved waste transfer and disposal services. Activities related to the closure of dumpsites (PDO level indicator 4) are progressing well, albeit with slight implementation delay but still on track to achieve the target by project closure. The plans for operation including reforms in the Joint Services Council for Khan Younis, Rafah and Middle- area (JSC-KRM) are ongoing and on schedule for completion before the project closing date.
