This assessment is based on the findings of the implementation support visit conducted from February 5 to 14, 2019. PICAR AF (totaling around US$60 million equivalent) is focusing on a total of 1223 communities and 106 municipalities in five departments (Chuquisaca, Cochabamba, Oruro, La Paz and Potosi). To date, the total number of subprojects executed, under implementation or identified amounts to 2,107 (880 under the original credit and 1,227 under the AF). The total number of beneficiary families of subprojects that received funding under PICAR and PICAR AF has reached 35,132. PICAR has 8 more months remaining until its closing (November 30, 2019) to complete the implementation of the subproject investments. This is an ambitious but feasible implementation effort if the accelerated pace of execution recorded since April 2017 is maintained. To better ensure the sustainability of the subproject investments in the post-project period, EMPODERAR has developed an action plan currently 4/10/2019 Page 1 of 6 The World Bank Implementation Status & Results Report BO PICAR Community Investment in Rural Areas (P107137) underway to enhance the technical assistance and accompanying support to beneficiary communities in the productive, operation and maintenance phases of the subprojects. This is in addition to ensuring the technical quality of the investments. A training to update project staff and consultants on social and environmental safeguards has been completed across the 5 regional offices (URC). The next implementation support mission is scheduled for July/August 2019.
