The project development objective is therefore to reduce physical barriers along the corridor from Nouakchott to Nema and the Mali- Mauritania frontier. The key indicators will be (i) reduced transit times and transport costs along the corridor in Mauritania (ii) restoration of 10 percent of the total length of the most deteriorated section of the corridor to good condition, and (iii) establishment of a sustainable mechanism for road maintenance along international corridors and to the main production and trading centers. Based on the findings of the mission held from May 25 through June 1st, 2012, the status of theimplementation of the road rehabilitation works on the Nouakchott-Rosso road Public Disclosure Copy Corridor is summarized hereunder: (i) The supervision consultant contract for the road rehabilitation works (Noukchott # Bombri # Rosso) is signed and in force; (ii) The Government of Mauritania have financed the resettlement compensation for Bombri-Rosso section and implementation of the Abbreviated Resettlement Action is completed and approved by the Bank; (iii) EU has authorized the signing of the contract for the supervision consultant for the entire road works corridor and the supervision firm is now on board since May 2, 2012; (iv) The contract for the Lot 2 of road rehabilitation works (Bombri-Rosso) is now in force since May 2, 2012; (v) EU and the Government have now agreed to re-launch the bidding process of the construction/rehabilitation of Nouakchott-Bombri road section to enable the works to start by April 2013.
