Page 1 of 6 The World Bank Report No: ISR6983 In response to a request from Government, the World Bank is in the process of restructuring the KYEP to cancel Component 1. The proposed cancellation of Component 1 will result in a change to the Project Development Objective and the associated results framework. The restructuring will also shift overall coordination for the Project from OPM to MoYAS. These changes are detailed in the project restructuring paper, which will be publicly disclosed once it is approved by the World Bank’s Executive Board. Public Disclosure Copy Implementation has continued to progress well under the Private Sector Internships and Training Component and Capacity Building and Policy Development Component. This progress is detailed below: Private Sector Internships and Training Component: The first cycle of the internship program was completed in mid-March, when the interns finishing a final 5 week work placement instead of the sector specific training. This was due to the fact that the procurement of the training providers for sector specific training was significantly delayed. Cycle 2 of the internship program is scheduled to begin in mid-July. This cycle will provide internships in Nairobi and Mombasa and will include an independent impact evaluation to assess the contribution of the project to promoting youth employment in Kenya. Capacity Building and Policy Development: MOYAS has initiated the training for the District Youth Officers based on the recommendations of the Training Needs Assessment. The Social Audit, which was designed to provide an important stream of independent information on the implementation of Component 1, is being closed, given that the project restructuring will cancel Component 1. Finally, the planned support to the National Youth Council continues to await the establishment of the Council.
