To date, the project has trained almost 1,400 beneficiaries (26% of the 5,300 target of which 54% are women and 45% youth between the ages of 16-29 years); engaged about 2,200 beneficiaries (36% women and 43% youth) in job-focused interventions; and created almost 50,000 labor days (22% of the overall target). Despite the delayed start in provincial works, the project is now back to the original work plan schedule for 2019. The impact of the project’s training and infrastructure delivered is clearly visible both in the town centers and at the community levels. There is substantial capacity within the communities, aptly demonstrated by both men and women, to carry out the works themselves with supervision. Despite not being a requirement, in several cases, community labor was volunteered, promoting a strong sense of inclusion and community ownership. The connective infrastructure supported by the project is perceived by communities as being essential for providing all-weather safe and secure access to schools, clinics, main roads, water wells, markets and other basic services and economic activities that are located in town as well as serving as evacuation routes for coastal and other communities vulnerable to natural hazards, helping to increase community resilience to climate change.
