Has the Project Development Objective been changed since Board Approval of the Project Objective? No Overall Ratings Name Previous Rating Current Rating Progress towards achievement of PDO ►Satisfactory ►Satisfactory Overall Implementation Progress (IP) ►Moderately Satisfactory ►Moderately Satisfactory Implementation Status and Key Decisions The second year of the project implementation has started on a high note, with increased pace of implementation, improved collaboration among partners as well as strong ownership and demand created by the project. The project has generated high interest among adolescents who often are not targeted as direct beneficiaries in most projects. The following key accomplishments have been registered since the start of the project: 1. Demonstrations to promote the growing of Bio-Fortified/Nutritious Crops: In collaboration with CIAT/Harvest Plus (international research institute promoting biofortified and nutritious crops), 42 mother demonstrations to promote growing of bio-fortified/nutritious crops among adolescents and their households were mounted. Following these, a total of 267 peer level demonstrations have been mounted, leading to increased adoption of production of nutritious crops among adolescents and their households. 2. The project has fully met the target number of beneficiaries (6061): The targeted number of beneficiaries for the project has already been reached. These include adolescents who are involved in various homestead gardens, thereby increasing year-round access to nutritious crops within adolescent households. A total of 288.4 hectares of land have been put to use in the production of nutritious field crops such as orange-fleshed sweet potatoes, Vitamin A enriched orange maize, iron and zinc beans, cowpeas and pigeon peas, while 14.6 hectares has been put under homestead indigenous vegetables production. 11/6/2019 Page 1 of 6 The World Bank Implementation Status & Results Report Adolescent Nutrition-Sensitive Agriculture Pilot Project (P163923) 3. A Grievance Redress Mechanism (GRM) has been developed and rolled out in the participating districts. A total of 10 grievances (or complaints) have been received, processed and resolved within 7 days, at lowest level of the system. The Environmental and Social Management Plans (ESMPs) have been developed and are being implemented. 4. The project has increased its efforts on communication and visibility. A total of 11 articles have been published in the media, 6 items on radio and 6 items on local television. A media tour and project launch further increased the project’s visibility. 5. The project has increased collaboration at national, district and local levels, with clear roles and ownership built in. At district level, the project is well anchored within the District Nutrition Coordination Committees (DNCC). The project participated in the national nutrition monitoring, where it was classified as best example of project on adolescent nutrition. In moving forward, the project needs to address the following key issues, among others: 1. Capacity building training manuals: The development of capacity building materials tailor made for adolescents has delayed and is urgent to ensure standardization of training package for adolescents. 2. Capturing project level impacts: The mission observed various impacts from the project are now being seen but not properly captured. It was agreed that the project commissions a survey to better capture such impacts.
