Public Disclosure Copy The Regional REDD+ Project was approved on July 14th, 2011 by the World Bank Board. The project became effective on November 29th, 2011. The launching workshop was organized in Bangui-CAR on March 13-14, 2012. The Project Implementation Unit (PIU) has been fully operational for the last 8 months. The Project is seen as a catalyst for REDD+ in the Congo Basin region and the PIU has already made significant progress to (i) provide support to the National REDD+ coordination, (ii) strengthen regional coordination on REDD+ (joint submission to SBTSA) and (ii) reach out to other partners involved in REDD+ and create synergies and partnerships. Delays are however to be reported on procurement processes, and particularly with the selection process for the four main contracts (total amount: 4.5 million USD): all four contracts are in final stages of selection (negotiations) and it is expected that they will all be signed by the end of May 2013 with a beginning of the activities on the ground shortly afterwards. While the progress towards achievement of GEO/PDO is still rated Satisfactory, the Overall Implementation Progress has been downgraded to Moderately Satisfactory to reflect the major delays on procurement processes that hold on implementation of activities on the ground.
