Procurement of PVC pipes for the two Abis areas is under way. An agreement was reached on implementation approached for marwa improvement: (1) Contracting with small-scale contractors with community participation in the supervision of the contractors and in the acceptance of the work. The PMU will be responsible for excavation and backfilling and for procuring PVC pipes and other required materials for the marwa works and their delivery to the field. This approach will be implemented in the Abis areas covering some 2500 feddans; (2) A medium-scale contractor will be contracted through competitive bidding Page 1 of 3 The World Bank Report No: ISR14655 to cover the 2,010 feddans in the Kanoubeya area. In this case, the contractor will be responsible for the supply, storage and installation of PVC pipes other materials for marwa works, and for maintenance for one year; the PMU and the beneficiary farmers will be responsible for digging and back-filling. The works in the Abis areas will start in May and should be completed by end September 2014.
