Volume I -Analysis and Statistical Appendix - analyzes the recovery in capital flows, set against the backdrop of an improved global economic environment. The recovery in flows, driven largely by cyclical factors, underlines how cyclical gains could be harnessed for long-term development, the key theme of this year's report. In addition to providing a detailed analysis of issues related to all forms of development finance, ranging from international capital markets to official sources, as well as workers' remittances, this year's report provides a comprehensive review of trade and infrastructure finance. A rebound in investment provided the foundation for global growth, led by developing countries. Global capital flows, trade and exchange rate policies are now intricately linked. Nowhere is this more evident than in the large-scale accumulation of official reserves, much of which is invested in advanced economies. Prospects and risks to development finance are analyzed in a comprehensive setting of the dynamics of today's global economy, including large current account imbalances, risk perceptions, composition of private-source capital and policies of the official donor community. Also included is a comprehensive and unique coverage of the role of trade finance in facilitating efficient trade. Such financing is particularly important in promoting low-income and less creditworthy countries' access to international capital. Finally, Volume I presents an analysis on financing infrastructure in developing countries, which is crucial for attracting foreign direct investment, expanding trade and achieving long-term investment and growth. Volume II of the report - Summary and Country Tables - is an extensive and detailed compilation of data relating to external debt of 136 developing countries that report this information to the World Bank under the auspices of its unique Debtor Reporting System. Detailed information on external debt stock, flows, service and composition, as well key debt ratios are presented at the country level.
