80813 World Bank Updates  MARCH 2013 ISSUE   Safeguards Consultations. The World Bank has begun a two-year process to review and update its environmental and social safeguard policies. These policies embody core values of the institution and are the cornerstone of the Bank's efforts to protect people and the environment and to ensure sustainable development outcomes. The review process unfolds as a three-phase approach. Currently, within the Review and Update of the World Bank Safeguard Policies: Phase 1, a consultations meeting with governmental counterparts took place in Bucharest, and in Chișinau via video conference, on March 21, 2013. On March 22, a similar meeting with civil society organizations took place. All those interested are invited to get involved via the dedicated webpage, where background information is available, and input can be shared.  NEWS IN ROMANIA Project for Revenue Administration Modernization. Negotiations for a proposed International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD) loan of EUR 70 million for the Revenue Administration Modernization project were held between representatives of Romania, Ministry of Public Finance and the National Agency of Fiscal Administration, and the representatives of the IBRD on March 18-19, 2013. The negotiations took place in Bucharest at the World Bank Romania Country Office. The negotiation documents were signed by both parties: Claudiu Doltu, Secretary of State for the Ministry of Public Finance, and Bernard Myers, project task team leader for IBRD. The presentation of the loan to the IBRD’s Board of Executive Directors is currently envisioned to take place on April 30, 2013.
