Broadband internet points of presence have been installed in 101 municipalities, 37 radio base stations and 104 telecenters have been installed in municipalities across the country, and 600 public payphones have been installed in towns and villages surrounding existing coverage areas that did not have access, out of which around 100 are equipped with solar panels in communities without electricity. Additionally, the project has successfully installed e-government application packages (e.g. financial management, cattle branding) in 78 municipalities across the country. The Additional Financing of US$5million for expanding telecommunications access to the Caribbean Coast and Rio San Juan, extended the closing Page 1 of 5 The World Bank Report No: ISR13692 date of the project until March 31, 2015. The first contract for rolling out telecommunications services in the Caribbean coast was awarded in January, 2014. A second tender for the remaining locations was launched in February, and is expected to be awarded by the end of March, 2014. The tender for the proposed e-Government Data Center for the Caribbean Coast is being prepared, and is expected to be launched in the coming months. On February 7, the Government launched a second tender, under a limited international bidding (LIB), with focus on the provision of mobile and internet services in 14 communities (originally lots 1 , 2, and 5) that currently do not have any form of telecommunications services.
