In spite of the techno-economic potential to generate 43,000 MW of hydroelectric power, Nepal is currently facing a crippling energy crisis. In the fiscal year of 2013-14, Nepal’s domestic generation met only 60 percent1 of the energy demand of grid-connected consumers. Import from India comprised 18 percent of the total energy supplied. Nearly, 22 percent of the demand could not be supplied, leading to load shedding in the grid for up to 12 hours...
