This news release, dated November 29, 2005, announces the World Bank launched a regional strategy to help countries in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) prevent a major surge in the human immunodeficiency virus and acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (HIV and AIDS) infections in the region. The new strategy - preventing HIV and AIDS in the MENA: a window of opportunity to act - will help countries fight HIV and AIDS more effectively.
