Social safety nets are among the most widely studied interventions. More than 15,000 studies published between 2000 and 2024. There have been over 50 systematic reviews summarizing impact studies. There is now a consensus that social safety nets are a highly cost-effective, high-impact investment. This is why the World Bank is committed to strengthening social safety nets and supporting at least 500 million people by 2030.
