With almost six million people, Bangkok is almost thirty times larger than the second largest city, Chiang Mai. The secondary cities in Thailand have stayed small and have not shared proportionately in industrial growth. There is a strong perception within and outside the Government that Bangkok has severe congestion problems because the city is getting too big.
